Give Mindfulness: A Holiday Sale

Dear friend,

Every fall, my mother packs up several boxes of school supplies for a school in the Boston area. One of her former co-workers had a child that attended this school, and my mother learned that this school doesn’t have the budget for necessities I took for granted as a student. So at the end of every summer, when office supply stores offer Back to School sales, my mom prowls the ads and gets to work. The boxes she packs are stuffed to the brim with pencils, pens, markers, notebooks and even tissues. Those supplies mean the world to the students and teachers at that school. That’s why my mom is a hero to the principal, who writes her a heartfelt thank you note every year. And every year, she’s my hero, too.

Another Way

As my mom shows, anyone can help our schools. That’s why I want to talk to you about helping students, teachers, and schools in a different way: with mindfulness. As a part of the team that works on Modern Mindfulness for Schools (ModMind), I’m grateful to be able to share the benefits I’ve seen in my mindfulness practice with students and teachers around the world.

ModMind is an interactive online program that teaches mindfulness to teachers and students. Classrooms using ModMind have seen increased student participation, and fewer problems with disruptive behavior. In just two years one school saw annual disciplinary interventions drop from 125 to 20. Our program has allowed us, and other partnered organizations, to transform entire school districts and cities.

Imagine Your Gift

It’s a wonderful, generous, and deeply kind gesture to give supplies like paper and pens to schools that need them. But you can also give the gift of mindfulness – a gift that lasts forever. For just $99—normally $150—you can give Modern Mindfulness to a teacher that you know and love.

Imagine your friend or a local teacher receiving an email on your behalf giving the gift of mindfulness to their classroom. They might be immediately excited and grateful. Or they might have the experience of one teacher, who said “I didn’t really think it would work with students… so I took it into my classroom and started doing a little bit, and realized it was taking off like wildfire, that the children really wanted and needed the mindfulness… they looked forward to it.” As a community, the whole classroom can spend just five minutes a day in the New Year practicing being more peaceful, happy, and focused.

How it Works

After you make the purchase, you’ll receive an email in your inbox. Simply forward that email to info@modmind.org with the name and email of the teacher you want to give ModMind to, as well as the name of the school that they teach at, and we’ll take care of setting up their account by December 31st, so it’s ready for the New Year.

A New Year

Once their account is ready, they’ll have unlimited, lifetime access to the program: its nine guided mindfulness exercises with interactive questions, as well as its videos for teachers and students. With just five minutes a day, students can begin to learn the skills of focus and relaxation. And by completing the included training materials, teachers will gain the skills and experience to eventually teach mindfulness successfully on their own.

As one elementary school student said, “I think mindfulness will help me throughout my life when I’m stressed.” Our program lays the foundation for students to practice mindfulness and gain focus, relaxation, and happiness that will help them learn effectively and grow into a confident, successful leader in a changing world.

This holiday season, consider the students and teachers in your life. Think about the stress and challenges they face, and how mindfulness can help them succeed as learners and leaders, now and tomorrow. Like my mother purchasing school supplies, you can give the gift of our online program to bring mindfulness to a classroom you care about.

Thank you,
Michael Fogleman

P.S. If you feel moved to give the gift of mindfulness to students, teachers, and classrooms, you might have friends that feel that way, too! Please share this letter with others who know how much mindfulness matters.
